Take a moment to consider your success in your career and in your life. Make sure to pat yourself on the back for your many achievements. Now, ask yourself, what have you brought to your work and life that led to your success? Chances are you will have identified assets that are in your life portfolio, especially your knowledge and skills.
Now consider this: What if you’re overlooking key elements of your success? Might you be even more successful, if you knew and could manage attributes that make you stand out? Certainly you would gain a practical advantage, but you would also reach a deeper and more satisfying self understanding.
Discovering these attributes, however, is tough to do unless you get honest, straightforward feedback that you can use. Of course, throughout your life, you’ve relied on the feedback of others to learn and grow. Still, relationship factors may have affected the reliability of, as well as your receptivity to, some of the feedback you’ve received.
Given this potential unreliability, many organizations use 360-degree assessments to provide objective feedback to support development of their people. Maybe you’ve had a 360 and discovered strengths, weaknesses, and other attributes that affect your performance.
If you’ve never had a 360 (or have not had one in several years), you’re missing an opportunity to discover and manage attributes that support your success. In this brand-you world, investing time and money in discovering your hidden assets can have big payoffs in your career and in other parts of you life.
