One of the things people most often miss about personal branding is that it’s about who you authentically are. Indeed, several of the introspective exercises we use in the Reach 1-2-3 Success process are geared to your values, passions, vision, and purpose. We find that it’s often the clarity about a central life theme that can drive a strong and consistent expression of personal brand. Indeed, that central theme tends to be a foundation for one’s life.
So, it was with great interest that I discovered the "What's your sentence?" exercise from Daniel Pink’s book, Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us. It’s one of the first exercises in the Type I Toolkit in his book, and is explained in his Two questions that can change your life video. Dan also explains it in a video to his newsletter subscribers:

So compelling is Dan’s challenge, and so related to personal brand, I couldn’t resist recording my own response:

Frankly, trying to distill your life into a single sentence is a challenge. Yet, by making the effort you’ll be rewarded with great personal clarity to better direct your life. So, what’s your sentence?

What a noble sentence! Bravo Walter!

Thanks, Kelly! It’s kind of the next stage in the evolution of my brand, but not too far from my original PBS: “I use my enthusiasm, forward thinking, and passion for self-direction to help clients identify their uniqueness and strengths and take control of their careers and lives.”
